We will refer to our breed in the following, however this is the same terminology used in other Hybrids as well. Providing that the hybrid consist of only two original breeds blended together.
The F1 Goldendoodle
F1 is the term used for the first generation, in Goldendodles that would mean a pure bred Golden Retriever crossed with a pure bred Poodle. The puppies from this breeding, all would typically be F/IC (Furnishings) and
+/- curl (wavy coat). F1 Goldendoodles may or may not shed, but are known for having the most genetic diversity. We would most likely not recommend this generation for families with severe allergies. Puppies from this cross can have a personality much like a Golden Retriever, Poodle or a bled of both personalities.
50% Golden Retriever & 50% Poodle

The F1b Goldendoodle
In this case, F1 still means the first generation, however the (b) is referring to a back cross to the poodle. Example F1 female is bred back to a Poodle to create the F1b generation. Most puppies from an F1b breeding are less likely to shed if at all. These puppies would be (F/IC) or (F/F) furnishings and (+/+) or (+/-) curly or wavy coats. Keep in mind the back cross for this generation is almost always a poodle. 75% poodle & 25% Golden Retriever

F1bb Goldendoodle
F1bb is the term used in breeding a F1b to a Poodle or Golden Retriever. Most breeders would choose to use the poodle for the F1bb generation.
Keep in mind the "Backcross" can represent Golden Retriever or Poodle.

The F2 Goldendoodle
F2 is the term used for crossing and F1 to F1, many breeders do not do F2 breeding's. Why, this breeding would result in some of the puppies in the litter that will be Goldendoodles, however will look much like a Golden Retriever and will shed. Some of the puppies in the litter will express the Goldendoodle look and will not shed. We do not to breed this generation, due to the likelihood of getting puppies that will not express the typical Goldendoodle look.
50% Golden Retriever & 50% Poodles
We don't breed for the F2

The F2b Goldendoodle
F2b is the term used for backcrossings an F2 to a Poodle. This generation would be very unlikely to shed if at all. This breeding should produce puppies that express 100% the typical Golendoodle look. We do not do this breeding, due to the fact that we don't breed for F2's nor do we currently own any F2 generation Goldendoodles. 37.5% Golden Retriever & 62.5% Poodle
We don't breed for the F2B

The Multiple Generational Goldendoodle
This generation is also known as Muti Gen, a Multi Gen Goldendoodle is when both its parents are Goldendoodle's, for example F1b x F1b = Multi Gen.
Once a Goldendoodle is considered a Multi Gen it can be bred to a Poodle, Golden Retriever or a Goldendoodle, the offspring as well as all future offspring would still be classified as Multi Gen.
